5 Checkpoints of Change in your Career

Don’t FEAR change!! No matter how you feel about it, change is an inevitable part of our lives. It can be controllable, but for most, they are at the mercy of change. Learning how to accept it, embrace it and roll with the bumps and bruises of it makes you not only resilient, but capable of bouncing back sooner. Creating goals is something that should remain a constant in your life, whether you use them to plan your career, start a project or start a new life. Goal setting helps us see more clearly where we need to go and what we need to do to make that happen. Follow these 5 tips to help you gain perspective in your career and be an agent of change.
1. Seriously evaluate your reasons for wanting to change careers or get promoted in your current position. Ask yourself honestly if you want to change because you don’t like your job, because you don’t like your employer, or because you have an interest in gaining new skills and abilities and expanding your horizons. The last reason is the best reason to make a change.
2. Gain any additional training or education you need to realize a smooth transition into a new position or employment opportunity. If you don’t know what the educational requirements are for a new opportunity, then find out. Visit the BLS http://www.bls.gov to find out what the job requirements, educational requirements and salary are for the job or career field you intend to enter.

3. If changing careers, know that you may have to start from the ground up. This may mean a salary cut. If you know you will have to take a reduction in salary, then make up for it by finding a way to budget your expenses until your salary catches up with you. You should also evaluate whether you can afford changes to your salary. Hopefully, a career transition will eventually (or immediately in many cases) result in an increase, rather than decrease in salary.
4. If you plan to leave your current employer, always be sure to give them advance notice so they have time to find a replacement if necessary. This is especially true of highly technical jobs, where it can be hard to find someone on short notice and train them well enough to do the job right. You never want to burn bridges because you never know what may come out of change.
5. If you are confident that you want to change careers but aren’t sure of what you want to do, consider going into business for yourself. Evaluate your skills, abilities and talents. Look at your financial situation and assess your management and organizational skills. Many people have hopes of one day creating their own business. Now may be the time to do this. Just be sure you prepare for a big change like this by researching the home business process before you leap right in and quit your job. Many people who decide to start their own business end up keeping their jobs and working on their business part time during their off hours. This is a good way to give you time to wet your feet and get a feel for whether a home business is something you really want to start. This will also allow you time to evaluate whether you can really make enough money from it to support your family if need be.

No matter what decisions you make, when career planning for change it is important you always take your time to evaluate and analyze your decisions from numerous levels and perspectives. Always keep in mind that the grass may not be greener on the other side. Yet you will never know if it is or not if you don’t at least take a closer look. Never make decisions in the heat of the moment and always be sure to research your alternatives and new occupations before you leap right in. If you consider all options and clearly observe your goals and objectives, you will realize and reap much success in your career planning journey.

The 6 Passages of Righteousness in Business

Righteousness

Business is tough and in order to remain on top, you have to be a student of the game and a believer in your efforts. What you do and how you react is conclusive of your success and the results. Take a bite out of these tips and see if it makes a difference in your life.

1. Keep a close ear. Don’t be nosey, but listen to those customers who are unhappy with their current provider of service. Offer suggestions to resolve and be a resource. If it doesn’t work out, guess who they will call.
2. Be the expert in your field. Customers like to work with someone who has an edge over what they are facing. By providing your expertise, you will be the go to person when an issue arises and hopefully solve the problem.
3. Return all calls or designate someone to do it. You never know who’s on the other side of that line. This could result in missed business opportunities. Be proactive just as you would want someone to do for you.
4. Continue to educate yourself and your associates about what you do. Attend webinars, take a class, read a journal or book. Seek experts in your field that you admire and reach out.
5. Ask for preceptorships with your customers to learn more about what they do. How can you help the business if you don’t know much about their operations? One on one customer service goes a long way. Not only will you build rapport, but you will possibly spot other areas where you can be of assistance.
6. Treat others how you want to be treated. In business, we often grasp the holier than though attitude if everything is going smooth. Rocky roads are inevitable. Utilize your contacts and resources wisely. Be nice to everyone and expect the same in return.

Testimony Tuesday…

struggle

Today…. I’m in the mode of delete and redirect!! Sometimes in life, one must focus in on what counts no matter how much it costs. This is my message to my new coaching clients that entrust me with their challenge. As I minister to you, I minister to myself.

Everything that’s not prospering me, holding me back, causing concern, frustration, stirring up trouble and creating delay will be deleted. I don’t mean no harm. I just love me too much to give up my happiness and what God intends for my good. It may be difficult for you to understand and don’t take it personal. The bridge that I’m crossing is not sturdy enough to carry a load.

Don’t Spend That Refund Check Just Yet!

Calendar - Tax Day Circled

“Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” –Ronald Reagan

It’s tax time again! You may not like this time of year, but many people do. Was saving money, making money or spending money on your list of resolutions for 2015? If so, here’s a great opportunity to start the year off right. Don’t just talk about it, be about it and just do it! Instead of using your tax refund that you allowed the government to hold all year with no interest to buy something of no value, utilize it to increase your financial portfolio and better the life of yourself and those around you. You will be much better off in the long run and you will reap what you sow. A harvest well planted grows bountiful in rewards. Listed below are 5 things you can do today to increase your net worth.

1. Buy a house. As a homeowner, you get to deduct the interest you pay to the mortgage company. Even though home ownership comes with a lot of responsibility, the good outweighs everything. Instead of being the 3rd party in a transaction, it will be you and the bank. Not you, the landlord and the bank. Home ownership helps you build wealth. You will have an opportunity to build a solid credit history with on time monthly payments. This gives you leverage. If you are renting or leasing, your landlord enjoys this benefit. He/she is basically enjoying the financial rewards of your inability to do this and creating wealth at the same time. Things have changed a lot with buying a home. I suggest you seek a qualified, licensed Realtor and mortgage professional to help you along the way.

2. Start a home-based business. You may feel that starting a business can be costly and overwhelming. Well… you are right for the most part. However, a home based business offers so much more flexibility and are typically less expensive to start versus a brick and mortar type of business. Most home based business owners start while they are still working a job to make ends meet. That’s the uniqueness of this type of opportunity. Being a business owner gives you the right to write off expenses while conducting business. It also provides you with another means of income and you are not so dependent on your job. Business owners save an average of $500.00 monthly on their taxes and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. That’s about 10 to 18 percent. You have the flexibility to do what the average tax payer cannot do which gives you more diversity in your portfolio. You can deduct home office space, utilities, gifts and incentives to name a few. Check with your local tax advisor about the advantages in your state.

3. Invest in stock options. Even though the Dow has its ups and downs, your money has a greater chance to increase versus being placed in a bank account at 0.5% to 2% interest. Search and investigate the companies growth history over the last five years so that you can make a wise decision. Hire a broker if you don’t feel comfortable with your knowledge. Join an investment club, watch you-tube videos and read books. There’s so much information available at your fingertips about how to build wealth.

4. Pay off credit card debt with the highest interest. Most of your monthly payment is going towards the interest and not the balance. This activity makes it literally impossible to ever pay it off in a reasonable amount of time. Debt is the handicap of wealth. The only way to get rid of it is to stop accumulating it. Credit card debt can be good and bad. Depending on what you are using it for justifies its value.

5. Donate to charity. This is the most rewarding aspect of giving. You haven’t been blessed until you can bless someone else. Not only will you impact the lives of others, but you will contribute to your personal well being by utilizing it as a deduction next year to do the same thing again or find a new cause. Find a charity you are passionate about. Utilize its mission to make you a better person. Get involved with the charity and its purpose. Your time and donation will be indispensable to those in need.

I hope you found these five tips worthy. Encourage others to take this challenge. Be the spearhead of this endeavor and watch how your life and your circumstance will change for the better. Not only will you be happier, you will also feel more accomplished. Blessings!
